Misunderstood Ego
Often when I hear someone talking about the ways they want to improve themselves spiritually the first thing they say is that they want to get rid of their ego. I understand why this seems like a good place to start, but I believe it can present a lot of unnecessary confusion and at times self defeat.
Our ego is a subset energy that lives in the solar plexus chakra and is an important part of our energetic system.
It is the birthplace of all desire. The desire to give off a certain appearance, to acquire material goods, to do things that we love and to be of service to others as a functioning member of society.
Like all of our other chakras and subsets of our chakras, the ego can become unbalanced. When this happens, we may find ourselves feeling overly confidant, or even with no confidence at all. We may become so entranced with the material world around us that we do not know ourselves as individuals, only the version of ourselves that society wants us to be.
The ego is easily manipulated by forces outside of ourselves so it is very important to be conscious of that voice inside your head telling you that you need more, or need to BE more.
When you find your ego out of balance, you can catch it by repeating “I AM” affirmations. Examples are “I AM ENOUGH” “I AM LOVED” “I AM WHOLE”. The energy of “I AM” fills the void you feel when an out of balance ego tries to convince you of the opposite. Of course this is easier said than done, but its a great practice to begin.
When the ego is in balance, it drives us to be the best version of ourselves. We begin to feel the need to be of service to others and to ourselves with only the expectation being proud of yourself.
Without the ego, there is no driving force to stimulate action toward purpose of any kind. There would be no desire to be a creator, a healer, a care taker a teacher, or even a student. With no desire, there could only be existence.
When you have no ego, or desire you can only exist in a state of being. It is important to be able to exist in this state for short periods at a time. When we are able to just be we are allowing ourselves to let go of all of our worldly desires, and worries that we feel throughout our days. Being allows us to be one with our creator and universe. When we are in a state of being, we are able to sit in our own space in a state of complete bliss with no desire to have anything or to do anything. Those on the path of enlightenment seek this feeling and when we find it we just want to get back to it.
So what if we could just stay there indefinitely? With no desire driving us? With no creativity or passions? With the only goal of to being? Could you be of service to your community or even to your own human experience?
The purpose of our lives here on earth is to simply experience our human existence. We can not do that if we are focused on disconnecting from our human self!
Your ego drives your passions and is not only necessary but critical to allow you to move forward in any capacity. Do not be afraid of your ego. Love it, and recognize the signs of it being out of balance
